In questo film, De Niro veste i panni di un poliziotto inibito, che per mansioni di fotografo della scientifica, non è molto abituato a maneggiare rivoltelle e, quando vi si trova costretto, gli tremano le mani e entra nel panico. Un De Niro che interpreta con abilità la parte dell’insicuro, del poco dotato, come pure nel celebre “Lettere d’amore”, un De Niro che, anzi, sembra davvero a suo agio nei panni del nevrotico inibito, contraltare cinematografico del De Niro coraggioso se non spaccone di tante, tantissime altre sue interpretazioni. Se guardiamo bene all’uomo attore calato nelle sue tante parti, però, ci accorgiamo che dietro la sicumera dell’eroe, del cinico, del guerriero, in De Niro si nasconde quasi sempre un animo fragile, indifeso, ed è proprio la fragilità nascosta sotto la scorza del duro, quella qualità che – solitamente – fa breccia nei cuori femminili (e qui veniamo alla Bionda, interpretata da Uma Thurman, ma ne parleremo dopo).

Il cast è di tutto rispetto: oltre a De Niro, figurano – appunto – Uma Thurman e Bill Murray. E’ proprio Bill Murray la vera anima drammatica della pellicola, l’agitatore mephistophelico di acque tranquille che si oscureranno, a causa di un destino che sembra scritto nel cielo di Chicago la notte in cui il poliziotto-fotografo (De Niro) salva la vita a un ambiguo personaggio della malavita (Bill Murray), che riterrà di avere nei confronti del poliziotto un debito, che ripagherà “regalandogli” per una settimana la compagnia della Bionda (Uma Thurman). Ma la nonna, da bambini, ci diceva: non accettare regali dagli sconosciuti! Il poliziotto De Niro, però, o non ha mai avuto una nonna, o sua nonna non gli ha mai dato questo consiglio. Fatto sta che accetta il regalo.

Sarebbe un peccato svelare la trama di questo bel film. Vorrei solo concludere dicendo che l’accoppiata De Niro – Murray è adatta a uno sviluppo della vicenda secondo tonalità comiche sempre sull’orlo del dramma, in quanto entrambi sono due vere maschere, due veri “demoni”, personaggi che sanno andare a fondo nell’inconscio umano, svelandone i risvolti più profondi e interessanti. Uma Thurman è al solito diafana e innocente, carica di una sensualità “molto femmina” che ce la fa sembrare una tigre addormentata, oggetto d’amore, pacco dono, ma piena di orgoglio e di dignità, una stoica eroina che ha molto sofferto, ma non ha perso il dono di saper ancheggiare e sedurre – un po’ sbadatamente. Il lieto fine arriva un po’ sofferto, ma arriva. Buon film a tutti.

In this film, De Niro stars as a cop inhibited, for scientific tasks of the photographer, not very used to handling guns and, when there is forced to shake hands and he panics. A De Niro, who plays the part with skill dell'insicuro, the very gifted, as well as in the famous "Love Letters," a De Niro, who, indeed, seems very comfortable in the role of a neurotic inhibition, cinematic counterpart of De Niro brave if not bully the many, many other interpretations. The cast is impressive: in addition to De Niro, include - in fact - Uma Thurman and Bill Murray. But the grandmother, as children, told us: Do not accept gifts from strangers! The policeman De Niro, though, or has never had a grandmother, or her grandmother has never given this advice. It would be a shame to reveal the plot of this beautiful film. I would just conclude by saying that the paired De Niro - Murray is suitable for developing a second tone of the story always on the verge of comedic drama, as both are true two masks, two real "demons", people who know how to get to the bottom in 'human unconscious, revealing those aspects most profound and interesting. Uma Thurman is usually translucent and innocent, full of sensuality "very female" that makes her look like a tiger there asleep, an object of love, gift basket, but full of pride and dignity, a stoic heroine who has suffered much, but has not lost the gift of being able to wiggle and seduce - a little 'carelessly. The happy ending comes a little 'suffered, but it comes. Good movie at all.
